Mossback, the Ancient of the Mere

Tier 3 · Hollow Mere – catalog level 30, met at level 20. A fight for three to five heroes; it returns 12–24 h after it falls. A hero 9 or more levels above it cannot hurt it. After 11 minutes of a fight it rages and hits four times as hard – and twice as hard again every minute after, up to 256 times. Its health is for four heroes and grows or shrinks 15% with every hero more or fewer fighting it (up to ten) – a hero counts once they have dealt 0.5% of the four heroes' health and stand no more than 8 levels below it. Regenerates 0.05% of its health every second while it lives. A stun interrupts a boss's cast, even while it is unyielding. Bosses take half of every stun, root and slow; a stun or a root makes a boss unyielding for 8 s, and until then it shrugs off further stuns, roots and slows. A slow never makes it unyielding.

Phases

at 66% and 33% health
  • 66% – The drowned bell on Mossback's shell tolls under the water - bog leeches swarm out of the mud! (3 × Bog Leech, worth nothing, gone when the boss falls or resets)
  • 33% – The dead willow on Mossback's back groans - mire lurkers crawl out of the reeds! (3 × Mire Lurker, worth nothing, gone when the boss falls or resets)

A new phase brings its own ability into the fight; the boss pauses a few seconds between two casts.

Loot

at level 20

500–1000 gold

Herb: 100% – Herb of Life 40%, Herb of Strength 20%, Herb of Fury 20% or Herb of Swiftness 20%; eaten as the pile is picked up.

Equipment of Tier 3 · Hollow Mere: 50% per roll, 4 rolls from 31 pieces, at the creature's level – grades Rare 56%, Epic 40%, Legendary 4%.

Set piece: 50% – Marsh Drowned Knight's, Marsh Bogstrider's, Marsh Hag-touched.

The whole pile goes to the party – or the hero – that dealt the most damage; every hero credited with the kill shares 10 times a world boss's experience by damage and earns 30 raid points, and each of their guilds gains 300 reputation.

Kill something 8+ levels below you and it drops a quarter of the gear, half the materials and gold, and no Tempering Stones or herbs.
