The Shard Field
In the south-west the star's shards hang in the air over mounds of crystal, and under them crawl the nebula horrors - things of dark and light that came down with the star. Star-Warden Cassian wants six of them killed before they spread.

Star-Warden Cassian says
“Walk under the hanging shards and look up once - just once. They turn. They have been turning since the star came down, and under them the nebula horrors crawl: many-legged, dark as the sky between stars, with lights where their eyes should be.”
“Six of them. Keep to the open moss between the mounds, and never stand under a shard for long.”
